ROBERT TREMELLS (abt. 1825-1909)AND DESCENDANTS

Robert, son of William B. and Margaret Tremells, lived a long but difficult life.   He married Caroline Russell in 1851 - a union which resulted in two children, George and Rachel, both born in the United States.  However Catherine died in 1856.  A year later Robert married Elizabeth, and with his second wife had two more children: Isaac and William.

These two children were born in Lambton County where Robert worked as a labourer, and later as an engineer.
Robert also served as a Private in the Fenian Raids of 1866 on the St. Clair River.  He received a medal for this service, and this medal was at one time in the possession of Isaac's son Lorene Tremells.  However its whereabouts is now unknown.  Robert died in 1909, having spent the last 20 years of his life in the London (Ontario) Asylum.  The funeral was held at the home of his son Isaac, in Mooretown.

Robert and Caroline's son George apprenticed as a saddler, and established his own shop in Mooretown.  He married Charlotte, and the couple had two daughters, Hettie and Nellie.  Sadly, George died of consumption in 1890 at the age of 37.  Charlotte appears to have left Moore Township, as no trace of the family can be found in subsequent census reports.  Nothing more is known of this line of the Tremells family.

Robert and Caroline's daughter Rachel married Samuel Thomson, and the two resided in Sarnia, (info from Robert's 1909 obituary).  Nothing further is known of this couple, but further research could be fruitful.

Robert and Elizabeth's son Isaac worked first as a school teacher, later as a telegrapher for the Canadian Pacific Railway.  He married Margaret Munn of Dresden, and the family lived in various parts of Lambton County.  There were two boys, William Cameron Lyle, known as Lyle, and Donald Lorene, known as Lorne.

To date there is no information about the fourth child, William.
