TREMELLS FAMILY HISTORY
THE MYSTERY OF WILLIAM TREMELLS

My Tremells family research has been unable to untangle the evidence about William Tremells.  These are the facts:

The marriage certificate of Richard Tremells identifies his parents as William B. and Margaret Tremells.
The book, Lambton's 100 Years states that William Tremells bought land in Moore Township, Lambton County, in 1832.
Census reports show that William and Margaret were born in Ireland, as were their children, Robert, Margaret Jane and Richard.
Richard's obituary in the Sarnia Observor says that his father (who is unamed in the article) went to Ireland on a property matter in the 1850s and died on the return voyage.
The 1861 census shows Margaret Tremells, a widow, living with Richard Tremells, age 26, and William Tremells, age 54, all born in Ireland.  The 1871 census does not mention Margaret, but lists Richard Tremells, age 35, and William, age 46, both born in Ireland.
There are 2 Tremells headstones in Trinity Sutherland Cemetery, Mooretown, next to each other.  One is for Margaret Tramell of Cork City who died in 1868 at the age of 76.  (Cemetery inscriptions report the date of death as 1888 but I have seen the stone and believe this is an error.  I know that the daughter Margaret's married name was McDonald, and she died in 1914.  There is also a record in the Anglican Church archives of a Tremells (first part looks like "Mrs.") who died Nov. 25, 1868.)
The other headstone is for William Tremells, who died August 22, 1876, age 59.  There is also a death certificate for this William, for this date, but giving his age as 70.  An Administration of Estate gives the same information and this document was signed by Richard and Robert Tremells and Adam McDonald (Margaret Jane's husband)..
My guess is that this second William Tremells was the oldest son of William B. and Margaret Tremells, and that his age in the 1861 census was a mistake.  Any other ideas or suggestions of ways to solve this mystery?
I also should add that Tremells is a very rare name and I have not found anyone in Lambton County with this name or a variation of it (Trammell, Trimels, etc.) who is not related to me.
