Margaret Jane was the daughter of William B. and Margaret Tremells. She was born in Ireland, presumably Cork City, where her parents were born and lived until coming to Canada. Margaret married William McDonald on November 3, 1848 in St. Clair County Michigan. This was just across the St. Clair River from her family's home in Mooretown, and was likely a convenient place many Moore Township residents to marry.
Margaret Jane (more often referred to as Jane in her married life) and Adam farmed for many years on lot 10, concession 6 in Moore Township, near Bear Creek. They had a large family: 11 children, 9 of whom survived to adulthood.
Adam died on August 23, 1889 at the age of 67, and was buried in Bear Creek Cemetery beside his children Margaret and Elizabeth who died in the fall of 1861 at the age of 11 and 3 years respectively. Another daughter, Janet H.Warren, who died May 27, 1876 at the age of 20, probably in childbirth, is also buried there.
In 1906 Jane is mentioned in her brother Richard's obituary as the mother of "a large family who are all respected members of the community". The article also states that she had lived in Bear Creek for the past 60 years. Jane appears again in the 1913 wedding announcement of her brother Richard's daughter Margaret Tremells. Jane is now living in Bridgen. She died a year later, on July 25, 1914, and was buried in Bear Creek cemetery with her husband and daughters.
Some descendants of Margaret Jane and Adam can be traced up to the present, still living in Lambton County.
