September 1998 - Present

Master of Arts Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology. In progress at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Concentration on archaeological theory and lithic analysis. Currently working on thesis entitled "From Static Types to Dynamic Variables: Re-assessing Chipped Stone Tool Classification in Ontario." Expected date of completion is May 2000.

September 1992 - June 1995

Diploma in Honours Standing in Anthropology. Dean’s Honour List 1994-95. Studied all four sub-disciplines, but with a concentration in the archaeology. Received from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario on June 5, 1995.

September 1988 - June 1992

Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. Studied all sub-disciplines including Petrology, Mineralogy and Palaeontology. Received from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario on June 11, 1992.

University of Western Ontario Archaeological Field Course. Completed a course in archaeological field and laboratory methods conducted by Dr. Chris J. Ellis, Chair, Anthropology Department, U.W.O. The course involved excavations at the Brian Site, a Late Woodland, Neutral village, ca. A.D. 1500.

January 3 - April 7, 1993

Special Course in Geology. Enrolled in special course in Hydrogeology at the University of Western Ontario.

May 1 - 10, 1991

University of Western Ontario Geological Field School. Whitefish Falls, Ontario (North Shore of Lake Huron). Participated in geological surveying and mapping, geological cross-sectioning, palaeo-current analysis.

September 01 - December 15, 1998

Volunteer Laboratory Assistant to Moira McCaffery, Director of Collections, McCord Museum of Canadian History, Montreal, Quebec. Worked on donated archaeological collections to develop detailed inventory to improve documentation of provenience and future analysis.

January 01, 1996 - August 31, 1998

Research Assistant to Dr. William D. Finlayson, Director-General, London Museum of Archaeology. Involved in extensive field work as well as laboratory curation as part of an overall research schema with the goal of the publication of the results of Dr. Finlayson’s work in the Crawford Lake region near Milton, Ontario. Utilized several computer applications during course of artifact and data analysis. Compiled and constructed detailed site maps with the AutoCAD 13 and CorelDraw 5.0 design software packages and several custom programs designed specifically for the Museum (Artifact Distribution, CSPMap, etc.) Compiled and analysed data for subsequent interpretation using Lotus 123 spreadsheet and DBase database software packages, as well as custom programs such as Seriation and Coefficient of Similarity Calculator. Worked in conjunction with other archaeologists on various aspects of the artifact assemblages for the purposes of consultation. Also involved in the technical proofreading and reviewing of pre-publication archaeological manuscripts. Served on editorial board as assistant editor for the director’s four-volume manuscript. Supervised field crew of two in the salvage excavation of a seasonal hunting camp just outside Milton, Ontario for five weeks.

May 01 - November 09, 1995

Archaeological Field / Laboratory Assistant with the London Museum of Archaeology. Central and southwestern Ontario. Participated in the contract mitigation of a pre-historic Huron village in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Carried out surveys and test excavations. Given opportunity to supervise two co-workers in the testing of a historic dwelling site.

April 25 - November 17, 1994

Archaeological Field / Laboratory Assistant with the London Museum of Archaeology. Central and southwestern Ontario. Involved in completing Praying Mantis excavation, as well as participating in surveying and excavating other area sites (Drumholm, UWO Gibbons Land), with Dr. Robert J. Pearce. Worked with Dr. William D. Finlayson on an ongoing research project involving Crawford Lake area sites (Van Eden, Red Turtle, Hunter-Beeton). Laboratory work (washing and cataloging artifacts, data entry) was also conducted.

September 30 - November 2, 1993

Praying Mantis Archaeological Site. Byron (London), Ontario. Volunteer field archaeologist at a Glen-Meyer Indian village of circa AD 1000. The London Museum of Archaeology’s Senior Archaeologist Dr. Robert J. Pearce managed the site. Tasks included shovel-shining, screening, data collection, excavation and profiling of features.

Research Experience:

June 1, 1997 - Present

Save Ontario Shipwrecks (SOS): Archaeological Mapping and Surveying. Currently producing updated site map of the wreck of the Jay Gould located in Lake Erie near Leamington, Ontario.

February 15, 1997-Present

Distributional Analysis of Keffer Site (AkGv-14) Material. Carrying out a higher resolution distributional analysis of the Keffer site chipped lithic assemblage. Involves regeneration of extant components of settlement pattern as well as the amalgamation of the previously separate graphics to construct a complete and up to date map of the Keffer site as a basis for this type of investigation. Utilizing DBASE3 Plus, CopyCAD (custom program), and AutoCAD software packages.

January 01, 1996 - May 31, 1997

Independent Artifact Analysis of Keffer Site (AkGv-14) Material. Carried out an analysis of the Keffer site chert and bone projectile points. Involved generation of metrics, chert type identification, morphological assessment, and statistical and distributional analyses. Utilized DBASE3 Plus, Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS), and AutoCAD software packages.

Teaching Experience:

January - April 1999

Teaching Assistant - McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Worked as a teaching assistant for a course entitled Theories of Culture and Society. Duties included grading of tests, including midterm, and term papers. Also conducted one-on-one conferences with students to discuss course material and work evaluations.

November - December 1997

Archaeology Underwater - A London Museum of Archaeology Outreach Program. Participated in the development of an educational program on the principles and practice of Nautical Archaeology. Prepared outline of techniques and procedures used in the field for instructional use as well as a basis for the generation of interactive exercises simulating the above mentioned field methods.
